For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence and pride. But when Vicente stumbles across someone he’s not supposed to know about – a woman from his father’s checkered past – he sets out to California to find her behind his father’s back.
What Vicente doesn’t expect to find in San Francisco is Violet McQueen, the woman’s twenty-year old daughter. Beautiful and edgy with a vulnerability he can’t resist, Violet tempts Vicente from afar and though he promised himself he’d stay away from her, curiosity and lust are powerful forces. Besides, Vicente has always gotten everything he wants – why shouldn’t he have Violet too?
Soon his wants turn into an obsession, one that sweeps Violet into his games as they fall madly, deeply in love with each other, the type of first love that can drive a person mad.
But it’s a love with tragic consequences.
Both the truth – and the lies – not only threaten to tear them apart, but threaten their very lives.
Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers.
And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.
NOTE: Black Hearts is book one of the Sins Duet, with the sequel, Dirty Souls, releasing in March 2017. These books can be read as a standalone – though they are a spinoff of the Sins & Needles and Dirty Angels trilogies, Black Hearts & Dirty Souls are set 20 years in the future and follow new characters. You do NOT need to read TAT or DA to enjoy or understand this duet.
BLACK HEARTS: This is spoken in ‘Multiple Perspectives’ (Elle & Violet -MOTHER/DAUGHTER) (Vicente & Javier - FATHER/SON)
Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers. And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.
At an early age Violet has always had an odd feeling that something is off about her parents, something doesn’t add up. Feeling that she was raised in a house shrouded in lies. Now at the age of twenty that feeling still lingers in her mind.
They say curiosity killed the cat, Violet's curiosity gets the best of her when she stumbles across an envelope, no forwarding address, inside is a newspaper clipping which screams more lies and coverups.
Vicente is next in line to take over his father's dynasty which he doesn’t want a bar of, but it’s in his blood, he’s been trained for this his whole life, his first kill was at the age of fourteen, from then on in he’s slowly been incorporated into that life.
Now he’s on a mission headed right for California, a mission to find one woman. A woman going by the name Eden White, Ellie Watt but most recently Ellie McQueen. Unearthed papers reveal that she was the one that his father let get away. Now it’s Vicente’s mission in life to find her. He’s been granted two months leave but once those months are up he’s to return back home.
Sometimes you have to hurt the ones you love to make them stronger, and while Javier would fight to the death to protect his son, he also knows he's the only one who can make Vicente the man he needs to be, even if it destroys both of them in the process. - Javier
Slowly Vicente worms his way into Violet's life to the point where she can't imagine life without him, he's got his clutches in so deep it's going to take pliers to break them free.
This man is nothing short of a mystery to me, so many facets, so many sides, I never know which one I'm going to get. - Violet
What Vincente didn't count on though was the hard, fast attraction they both felt towards each other. He's here because he's curious, getting close to Violet was never part of the plan, he's here on one mission only and that mission is Violet's mother Elle, his father's ex lover. This moves in lighting speed, one minute it seemed like they had just met, blink and they are having the most hottest sex I've read in a long time. Vincente isn't your typical bad boy, he's got the looks to prove it along with his alpha killer attitude. His deep dark secrets he's trying to hide, but secrets always have a way of coming out.
So many lies, one on top of the other. A pile of matchsticks about to go up in flames.
This kept me on tenderhooks throughout, if my nails weren't short as it is they would've been bitten down to the quick. So many lies that like a puzzle bit by bit they get revealed. Someone is after Violet, someone standing in the shadows watching the house, to being followed, to a botched up kidnap, all sit on the edge of your seat anticipation.
This does end on a cliffy so be aware of that, but BOOK#2 isn't that far away.

That magic number that will get us to agree to do anything, be anything.
Don’t sit on your gold-plated high horse and say you don’t because you do. Everyone does. Each of us has something we covet enough that we’d sell ourselves to have it.
What’s my tipping point, you ask? Apparently a cool quarter mil will do the trick.
What does one do for 250 large, you wonder? Anything the infamous, gorgeous playboy of Seattle wants. For the next four months I’ll be Shaw Mercer’s arm candy, his beck and call girl, his faux girlfriend. I’ll be his to command, mold, push and pull in any direction he sees fit.
I’ll fight falling into bed with him. I’ll fight falling in love with him even harder. I’ll fail at both. And when my past and present collide in the most unexpected of ways, I’ll learn that while one man’s love for me has never died, the only man’s love I really want will never be mine.
*If dirty-talking, dominant alphas are not your thing, move along. Mature, 18+ only. Book 1 in a 2-part duet.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author. Black Swan being the first which I absolutely loved and couldn’t wait to get my grabby little hands on this to see what kind of journey she was going to take us on.
LOST IN BETWEEN: This is spoken in 'Dual Perspectives'
A day that goes from bad to worse, from a flatmate meltdown, to a mother that’s suffering from Alzheimer’s, things needing to be fixed in the family home to being rear ended by a hot arrogant bastard whilst stopped at red lights has twenty-six year old Willow at her wits end.
During the day Willow has a audiobooks narration business that’s just starting to take off and a high scale escort at ‘La Dolce Vita’ as Summer when the occasion is required until she can build up her business enough where she won’t need the extra money this brings in.
We look pretty, we adorn our clients, we dote, we mingle, we act the part we’re given, and we go home at the end of the ‘date’ a few hundred or thousand dollars richer, with our legs shut and our pride intact.
With an ailing mother and bills piling up with all that comes with a sick mother in care Willow Blackwell needs a lot of money to keep her head above water and thirty six year old Shaw Mercer Seattle’s unattached golden boy the man who rear ended her car is just the man who can give it to her. He needs a girlfriend. A fake one that will get dysfunctional family off his back and as a favour from his father. One that will be on call for the next 4 months for the amount of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
The duration is for approximately the next four months. Ten hours a week, maybe more, maybe less, depending on my schedule. You may be required to travel, and you will be available at all times when I need you, day or night. You will attend social events, fundraisers, business dinners, and family functions.
In the beginning I wasn’t really feeling it, was just a wee bit drawn out I felt, but once I reached the part of the actual signing of their binding contract was when it started to all click into place for me and that where I connected with the storyline and the characters.
Four months of my life is a small price to pay to get out from under this financial stress plaguing me. If Shaw wants to pay me a stupid amount of money to play his girl friend, I will take it and walk away with a clean conscience when our contract ends.
The connection, the undeniable attraction, the heat, the sexual appetite these two encountered had me devouring the pages. A slow burn romance. HOT HOT HOT!!
When was the last time you were good and kissed? Painstakingly, completely branded by a man so thoroughly you could still feel the press of his lips and the coiling of his tongue with yours when you went to bed that night?
Lines got crossed very very quickly, what was meant to be fake turned very real in a matter of moments. Hearts on the line.
When their four months are up are they both left intact to walk away or have they both fallen further than they realised?
You may own my time. You may own how I dress, how I act, what I say, where I go. But to own is to possess. And I am no man’s possession.
How this ended has me craving, needing, wanting the next instalment of this..
From New York Times bestselling author, Samantha Towle, comes a new standalone romantic comedy.
Vaughn West, Hollywood heartthrob, has been at the top of his game for years. He thinks he’s untouchable—until a betrayal brings him spiraling down. Now, everyone pities him, and if there’s one thing Vaughn hates, it’s pity.
After a few months of working his way through every available actress, pop star, model, and waitress in California, Vaughn needs to get his life back on track and focus on what he does best—making hit movies.
Charlotte Michaels is in love. Just not with one person. Louis Vuitton… Christian Dior… Valentino… Gucci… And the list goes on.
Sadly, Charly’s limited bank account doesn’t allow her those luxuries, and the closest she gets are lucky finds in charity shops and working closely with some of those names in her job as a wardrobe assistant.
Now, Charly has landed the mother of all jobs—working on the new Vaughn West movie. Excited doesn’t even cut it.
Only things don’t go as planned, and it turns out that Vaughn is actually a jerk. A hot jerk, but a jerk nonetheless.
So, why do their clothes keep falling off whenever they’re around each other? And why can’t Charly keep her mind in the closet and off Vaughn?
Getting mixed up with a smart-mouthed, fashion-obsessed wardrobe assistant is the last thing Vaughn needs.
Getting mixed up with an arrogant, self-centered, obnoxious, jumped-up actor who has a lack of respect for fashion is the last thing Charly needs.
Things are about to get hot, dirty, and messy in Hollywood. Very messy. Especially if Charly’s closely guarded secret falls out of her closet.
A sexy, Laugh out loud, lighthearted feels good read
“Getting mixed up with a smart-mouthed, fashion-obsessed wardrobe assistant is the last thing Vaughn needs. Getting mixed up with an arrogant, self-centered, obnoxious, jumped-up actor who has a lack of respect for fashion is the last thing Charly needs.”
WARDROBE MALFUNCTION: We’re introduced to Vaughn, his girlfriend Piper of six months and his best friend Cain of ten years as they are discussing their latest movie the trio had acted in together during a live late night chat show on national television.
Piper is actually the first woman I’ve dated seriously since I got in this business. I just figured it was time to settle down.
Everything's going smoothly as each of them discuss how it was working together, until the host mentions the affair that these two were having behind Vaughn’s back for the last three months.
My heart is being broken on live television by my cheating-ass girlfriend. But, worse, by my friend, whom I trusted. The guy I’ve known for ten years.
After being ousted on a late night live chat show on national tv Vaughn's been going on an out of control bender ever since.
Charly aka Charlotte Michaels has been offered the job of a lifetime, being a wardrobe set designer she goes where she’s needed, but to know she’ll be working with one of the most hottest male celebrities that she has lusted over in her fantasies has her heart beating on overtime.
Needing him to try on the pants that appear to need adjustments made when he comes out of the dressing room shitless has her eyeballing his chest.
I turn around, and…holy shit He’s shirtless He’s just wearing the pants No shoes. Just bare feet Sweet baby Jesus
Imagine whilst on your knees doing a clothing adjustment on a pair of pants to one of the hottest men on the planet and you accidentally prick him with a pin..
Charly is beyond mortified!!
A wardrobe malfunction has these two at loggerheads
Going into this I didn't know what to expect, from being humiliated on national tv to getting pricked by a pin goes from serious to hilarious in a matter of minutes. But wait to make up for that wee prick she did go out of her way to make him a little gift in large size, that had the giggles bursting freely.
A cease war has been reached when they decide to be friends, and friends only, anything more would jeopardise his career, but usually the best laid plans have a way of backfiring on us when we least expect it and these two are no different. An undeniable attraction, a hidden romance, things go from friends to more in a flash.
“Pins, we got off to a crazy start. After the stabbing incident, you made me a stellar piece of underwear, and then you yelled at me and called me a few choice words. I kissed you to shut you up, and I’ve been lucky enough to keep kissing you ever since."
I could read this again, and I very rarely say that about a book. I've gone through all those fluffy fucking feels with this book, the argghhh he's an arrogant ass, to swooning over him the next, definitely one I would recommend as a one click purchase on release day!!
As a little girl, I saw my father destroy the family he claimed to love. I watched my mother waste her life dreaming of a man who left her without a second glance.
As a woman, I don’t dream, I work. I don’t fall in love, I focus. I would never let anything as frivolous as love distract me.
Until I meet Simon. A gorgeous, brilliant young architect with dark eyes, a sweet smile, and a dirty, dirty mouth. He sets me on fire, and suddenly all I can do is dream…of his hands, his lips, his body. Of a heart good enough and a love strong enough to make me believe in happily ever after.
But Simon has secrets that are even deeper than mine. Will our pasts destroy everything we’ve worked for? Or will we find the courage to rise to the challenge and fight for the love we share?
RISE: This is Dylan Allen’s debut novel which is so hard to believe, going into this you would think a seasoned author had written this book. Told in alternating points of view
We’re first introduced to thirteen year old Adelaide Hassan which marked the day her world fell down around her ears and life was never the same again. Her father became a wanted fugitive for fraud within the accounting firm he worked for. Hundreds lot their money, their livelihoods, their homes.
One minute they were the pillar of the community the next they were ostracised, made to flee in the middle of the night, her mother, herself and her two sisters are now under the FBI’S protection, new identities, new country, new beginnings.
The Hassan family disappeared in the blink of an eye
London represented so many rare opportunities and Ade made two promises to herself 1: I would never rely on anyone for anything again. 2: I would find a way to live in a country where no one would care who I had been before.
Addie Dennis was born the day Addie Hassan was no more
The moment she meets Simon she’s drawn to his outrageous good looks and his stunned speechless on the spot.If it wasn’t classed as unladylike I’m pretty sure drool would've been dripping down her chin.
Weeks would go by before these two encounter each other again but the attraction isn’t one sided, Simon though is in turmoil, he’s overwhelmed with his responsibilities and runs hot and cold with his head and heart ruling wither he should pursue Addie or leave her alone. Which subsequently has addie building up walls to protect herself because she knows he will be her biggest downfall if she lets herself fall.
I’ve always been very good at keeping people at arm’s length. But, I can tell he would be a challenge.
This story isn’t about unicorns farting glitter, it’s borderline dark with what some of these characters had to endure at the hands of their loved ones, but the author held restraint in her going into the dark side of things. How it ended I'm guessing this isn't the end of the story, there's more to come and for that I am so glad. This was such a unique story, one that I highly recommend.
